Apple Pay Is Coming to MetaMask! (Allowing Users To Buy Crypto With a Single Click)

TL;DR

  • Compared with other browser wallets, mobile wallets, or really any type of Web3 wallet, MetaMask has always been one of the least intuitive to use..

  • The good news is, they've just partnered with crypto on-ramp/off-ramp company, Banxa, to allow users to buy Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies in 1 click, using Apple Pay (!!!)

  • This removal of friction edges us one step closer to being able to tell our parents:

“Download this app, sign up using your email and password, and click the big ‘Buy’ button. That’s it. Now you have custody of your own crypto.”

MetaMask is the best!

…except when it comes to its UI, in which case: MetaMask is the worst!

Compared with other browser wallets, mobile wallets, or really any type of Web3 wallet, MetaMask has always been one of the least intuitive to use.

Which is an issue, because it’s the world’s most widely adopted Ethereum wallet - with over 30 million active users.

The good news is: the team at MetaMask are working on ironing out the kinks.

They've just partnered with crypto on-ramp/off-ramp company, Banxa, to allow users to buy Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies in 1 click, using Apple Pay (!!!)

That means: click, smile, here you go, you're now a crypto holder.

That’s something even Kevin (our intern) could understand.

And he’s an idiot!

When it comes to buying crypto via MetaMask, the critical (and often the most scary) step is turning your real-world funds into digital currencies.

It often takes a bunch of confusing steps, enough to scare off the non-tech-savvy crowd.

This removal of friction edges us one step closer to being able to tell our parents:

“Download this app, sign up using your email and password, and click the big ‘Buy’ button. That’s it. Now you have custody of your own crypto.”

(Which is currently only possible on centralized apps like PayPal and Venmo - where the platforms themselves hold the crypto on the users' behalf).

…but all of this isn't without its down sides.

This new integration will only work for users who already have an account with Banxa, and who have already shared their ID with the platform.

So that first experience is still gonna be clunky!

...but for the second, third, and fourth, you'll be able to transact in crypto without thinking about it twice.

And who doesn’t love a little mindless spending?
