Magic Eden is comin' in hot to Ethereum!

One way to pull marketshare away from your competition is to create a unique selling point (USP) around your product.

Some notable real-world examples of USP's in action are:

  • Manscaped (beard trimmers, for your balls)

  • Caviar (food delivery, for bougie restaurants)

  • NerdFitness (Gyms, for nerds)

Magic Eden have recently come up with a USP of their own, in order to attract Ethereum users away from OpenSea, and onto their platform.

For those playing at home, Magic Eden is the leading Solana NFT marketplace, and last week they announced that they’re planning to start supporting Ethereum NFTs.

To bring new ETH users in, they're trying to woo the largest combined community in the Ethereum NFT space - that of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and ApeCoin (APE).

Here're the details of the proposal:

  • Magic Eden will build an exclusive standalone, ‘Bored Ape Yacht Club only’ marketplace.

  • Users will be able to buy BAYC NFTs, using both Ethereum and ApeCoin.

(This feels like a direct appeal to ApeCoin holders - the more trading volume APE gets, the stronger the token becomes).

  • They'll do it for free, as long as they get the green light from the ApeCoin community.

(Which sounds like a subtle way of asking, 'if we build it, will you come?')

Is it a game changing idea?

Not really.

Is it a sweet deal for BAYC/ApeCoin holders?

Sure, why not (it's free).

Is it a great publicity stunt, that'll get folks writing about it (hi )?

Absolutely it is.
